Strengthening ties with Africa is one of the priorities of Russia's foreign policy. On May 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin said this at a meeting with President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso.

"Russia and the Republic of the Congo are in solidarity in their approaches to solving many pressing global issues or issues on the global agenda. We appreciate the joint work we are doing at the United Nations. I would like to emphasize that one of the systemic priorities of Russian foreign policy is to strengthen ties with African countries," the Russian leader said.
