Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, scientific director of the Space Research Institute Lev Zeleny, in an interview with Izvestia, shared his opinion that Russian spacecraft may be the first to reach the North Pole of the Moon. This is how the scientist commented on the statement by Dmitry Bakanov, Director General of Roscosmos, who, during a meeting with the heads of space agencies of the BRICS countries, provided details of Russia's lunar program.

According to the head, six devices will be launched in the coming years. Including for remote sensing — "Luna-26", "Luna-29", and for contact research — landing modules "Luna-27" No. 1 and No. 2, "Luna-28", "Luna-30".

"The Russian lunar program as outlined is an ambitious project that, importantly, includes not only the study, but also the initial stages of satellite exploration," Zelyony said.

He added that Bakanov's statement supported the scientists' proposal to send one device to the area of the satellite's South Pole, where foreign expeditions had already visited, and the second to the vicinity of the North Pole, which had not yet been explored by landing modules. Thus, our country can be given priority in this area.

However, Bakanov said that 13 states have already joined the Russian-Chinese project of the International Lunar Station. The main contribution to the project from Russia will be the lunar nuclear power plant. In the future, experts plan to build a nuclear power plant on the satellite.
