A pet can get serious poisoning from the food that it has eaten daily before. This was announced by Grigory Balagurov, director of the Law and Health Food and Packaging Quality Protection Foundation, on Friday, April 18.

According to experts, in most cases, the owners purchase dangerous food on marketplaces. The control purchase of feed for various types of animals showed that every sixth online order is delivered with violations, Balagurov noted. At the same time, the most common problem is a violation of the integrity of the product packaging.

"The only available marker of product quality on online platforms is reviews, which may turn out to be an ordinary scam. Moreover, due to the abundance of sellers on marketplaces, there is often no proper control over the quality of animal feed, and some products are sold without the necessary veterinary accompanying documents," the expert warned in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

Balagurov advised to carefully study the food packaging and refuse to buy if there are any defects on it, even small holes or scratches - because of them the product may deteriorate, and the pet risks, among other things, contracting botulism, the consequences of which are even more severe for the animal body than for humans.

He also noted that the food packaging should be stored in a dry room and at a temperature of no more than 26 degrees, away from direct sunlight.

On March 28, veterinarian Vladimir Urazhevsky said that if a cat behaves strangely — refuses to eat, moves unnaturally or does not respond to the owner's call — this is a serious cause for concern. A pet may be poisoned by poor-quality food, reports 360.ru .

Prior to that, on March 14, Igor Glamazdin, Director of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary and Sanitary Expertise and Agro-Safety at ROSBIOTECH University, gave recommendations on the selection of high-quality cat food.

According to the expert, a cat's diet should contain proteins, fats, carbohydrates, fiber, amino acids, as well as a full range of vitamins and minerals.

Earlier, on March 4, the press service of the Moscow Department of Investment and Industrial Policy reported that in 2024, Moscow companies increased production of ready-made animal feed by 17.7%, and deliveries to customers increased by almost 30%.
