Finnish President Alexander Stubb said on April 3 that France or Britain should take the initiative to work with Russia to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

"I personally prefer that our representatives from the coalition of the willing do this. In other words, France or Great Britain," Stubb, who spoke to reporters in Helsinki, told Reuters.

According to him, the European countries supporting Ukraine (the so-called "coalition of the willing") had previously agreed that one of their leaders should contact the Russian Federation at a certain stage.

The Finnish President stressed that any steps in this direction should be carefully coordinated.

Earlier, on April 1, Stubb said that the country should prepare for the return of relations with Russia. He also stressed that the resumption of dialogue between the two countries would depend on the end of the conflict in Ukraine.

In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, commenting on the words of the Finnish leader, that the Russian Federation has never sought to spoil relations with other states, especially with neighbors, but has always advocated mutually beneficial cooperation.
