There is currently no dialogue with the United States on reopening Russian banks with SWIFT. This was announced on March 17 by Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov to Izvestia.

"There has been no dialogue between the Finance Ministry and the government," he said.

In February 2022, the United States, the EU, and Canada agreed to disconnect sanctioned Russian banks from the SWIFT international banking system.

In January, the head of VTB Bank, Andrey Kostin, said that only administrative solutions were needed to replace the SWIFT international payment system. He noted that, taking into account the prospects that open up with the development of the North—South corridor, the SPFS system developed by the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) is becoming increasingly relevant.
