- Court in Turkey sentences Russian woman who abandoned her daughter at the airport to 15 years in prison
On February 24, a court in Turkey sentenced Russian Ekaterina Burnazkina, who left her newborn daughter at the airport of Antalya in October 2024. The woman was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
"Sentence Ekaterina Burnazkina to 15 years in prison on charges of attempted murder of a close relative," RIA Novosti quoted the judge of Antalya's Fourth Court for Serious Criminal Cases as saying.
On October 14 last year, an 18-year-old Russian woman gave birth in a toilet at Antalya airport and left the baby to die in the toilet bowl. The baby's life was saved by the fact that he was found 12 minutes after the incident. A criminal case was opened against Ekaterina on October 15. On the same day, the Russian woman stated that she did not know about the pregnancy.
Later, on October 18, at the Russian Consulate General in Antalya, the abandoned newborn child was issued Russian citizenship, and a mark confirming its presence was put in the birth certificate.
In addition, on October 21, Burnazkina expressed her desire to take the girl to Russia, as she is a citizen of the Russian Federation. On October 22, it became known that the 18-year-old mother named the child Nicole. On November 4, it was reported that the case will be considered in Turkey.
