The European Union (EU) will have to introduce its troops to the territory of Ukraine "sooner or later". Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said this on February 15 at the Munich Security Conference.

"When[US President Donald] Trump says that as part of the deal [on Ukraine] European troops have to be [sent to Ukraine], we will have to provide them. So sooner or later we will have to intervene," he said during the speech, which was streamed on the conference's website.

According to him, the time for negotiations has not yet come.

Sikorski also called Russian President Vladimir Putin 's phone conversation with Trump a mistake. He specified that he opposed quick negotiations on the conflict and pointed to "a decline in morale in Ukraine."

The Associated Press (AP) reported on February 15 that a group of European political elites met at the residence of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte last December to discuss the possible sending of troops to Ukraine. According to AP, the group included representatives of Britain, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland, as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term expired on May 20, 2024).

In his turn, Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov called the idea of sending European peacekeepers to the Ukrainian territory impracticable. First of all, the Russian Federation should give its consent to the implementation of the plan, he added.
