Japan's prime minister says to ramp up investment in the U.S. to $1 trillion
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said Feb. 7 that his country will continue to increase its investment in the United States, thus bringing it to $1 trillion dollars.
"Today, I informed [U.S. President Donald Trump] of my desire to cooperate together to increase Japanese investment in the U.S. to an unprecedented one trillion dollars," he said during a joint press conference with Trump.
In addition, Ishiba said the countries will work together to increase the supply of U.S. liquefied natural gas to Japan, as well as promote cooperation in semiconductor manufacturing and artificial intelligence development.
Earlier, Trump announced U.S. approval of $1 billion worth of military supplies to Japan. According to Trump, Japan is one of the largest buyers of U.S. military products. Cooperation between Tokyo and Washington contributes, in his opinion, to stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
