Tokyo and Washington plan to work together on regional problems, including the solution of the Taiwan issue. Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said at a joint press conference with U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday, February 7.

At the same time, Ishiba emphasized that the US should decide for itself whether to resume contacts with the DPRK. Trump, in turn, confirmed that his administration plans to "build relations with the DPRKauthorities."

Earlier in the day, Trump announced the US approval of $1 billion worth of military supplies to Japan. According to Trump, Japan is one of the largest buyers of US military products. Cooperation between Tokyo and Washington contributes, in his opinion, to stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
