- Media pointed to Trump's need to come to terms with the role of Russia and China in a multipolar world
The administration of US President Donald Trump may mark the end of the era of the unipolar world, the American leader will be forced to reckon with the interests of Russia and China. This was reported by The Guardian newspaper on February 6.
The publication recalled that earlier Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave an interview to American journalist Megan Kelly, in which he said that unipolarity is an anomaly, a consequence of the end of the Cold War. He noted that the world is returning to a multipolar arrangement with "several great powers in different parts of the planet," including Russia and China.
"We were the only power in the world," Rubio explained, "so we became a kind of world government, trying to solve every problem. What he meant to say was, 'Those times are over,'" the article said.
It is noted that Trump will keep his promise and find a peaceful approach to China and shift more responsibility for security to NATO allies. However, the material also points out that despite Rubio's promise to avoid US involvement in new conflicts, the political elite of the United States fears that the American leader will divide influence between Washington, Moscow and Beijing.
Earlier, on February 5, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that Rubio's position on multipolarity coincides with Moscow's vision.
