Trump sent the head of the US election commission a letter of resignation
Chairman of the Election Commission (FEC) Ellen Weintraub published a letter from U.S. President Donald Trump with a notice of dismissal. This was reported by Bloomberg agency on February 6.
"Today I received a letter from the President of the United States suggesting that I be removed as Commissioner and Chairman. I have been fortunate to serve the American people and in the process create good problems. That's not going to change anytime soon," Weintraub wrote on social networking site X (formerly Twitter).
She noted that there is a legal way to replace FEC commissioners, and the letter is not it.
The notice Weintraub received said the decision to dismiss was effective immediately.
FEC commissioners are elected to one six-year term, but can remain in their positions due to the lack of replacements.
