Ex-senator Savelyev appealed against the extension of his arrest

Ex-senator Dmitry Savelyev, accused in the case of organizing the murder of his former business partner Sergei Ionov, has appealed against the extension of his arrest. Information about it is published on the website of the courts of general jurisdiction of Moscow.

The case came to the court of appeal on February 3, the hearing is scheduled for February 19.

Earlier, on December 25 last year, Basmanny district court of Moscow extended Savelyev's detention until March 19.

The ex-senator was detained on August 2 on the way out of a meeting of the Federation Council, he was stripped of immunity. According to investigators, in August 2023, Savelyev instructed his acquaintance to organize the murder of businessman Sergei Ionov because of personal animosity. A criminal case under part 3 of article 33, part 1 of article 30, paragraph "z" of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Organization of preparation for murder") was initiated on this fact. As reported by the source of "Izvestia", the senator promised a reward of $100 thousand for the murder. Savelyev did not admit his guilt.

Dmitry Savelyev until 2016 was a deputy of the State Duma of the sixth convocation, in 2021 he was appointed senator from the government of the Tula region.
