Video streams from cameras located near container sites have begun to be transmitted by the authorities of 30 Russian regions. The video is transmitted to the Federal State Information System for Accounting of Solid Municipal Waste (FGIS UTCO). This was reported by the Russian Environmental Operator (REO) on February 6.

It is noted that broadcasts will allow to promptly monitor and eliminate waste piles at the sites.

"Now in FGIS UTCO contains information about more than 1.1 million places of accumulation of solid waste. Video from container sites is an objective tool for monitoring their maintenance and waste removal. Now it is possible to see in real time where waste has accumulated or sites are not in proper condition," said Denis Butsayev, Director General of REO.

Among the subjects of the Russian Federation that transmit video streams from cameras to FGIS UTCO are Kaluga Region, Krasnodar Territory, Lipetsk, Moscow, Murmansk Regions, Nenets Autonomous District, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Penza, Pskov Regions, Primorsky Territory, Republics of Bashkortostan, Kalmykia, Crimea, Mari El, Sakha (Yakutia), North Ossetia-Alania, Ryazan, Samara, Saratov, Sakhalin Oblasts, Stavropol Krai, Tula, Tyumen Oblasts, Udmurt Republic, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (KMAO), Chuvash Republic, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YNAO), Yaroslavl and Ulyanovsk Oblasts.

In addition to broadcasts, REO plans to implement a neural network that will identify various violations of the content of sites and generally analyze their occupancy.

"REO is developing a neural network that will allow to detect waste heaps near the container site, blocking the possibility of removal from the container area, overfilling of containers, analyze the situation before and after the emptying of containers by a garbage truck, in particular, to record the presence of waste in the container after emptying," said Alexei Burov, Deputy General Director for Digitalization of REO.

Earlier, on January 30, REO summarized the results on capacity commissioning for the entire period of implementation of the federal project "Integrated system of solid municipal waste management". Thus, for 2019-2024, the regions created 295 solid municipal waste (MSW) management facilities with a capacity for treatment - 23 million tons and utilization - 7.5 million tons.

Prior to that, on December 5, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that 242 objects of accumulated environmental damage had been eliminated in Russia as part of the national project "Ecology". This number included 157 large landfills. The territory of the objects was reclaimed, which, in turn, made the lives of more than 20 million people more comfortable and safer, the head of state added.
