Near the coast of Nicaragua five people died and four are missing in the wreck of a ship with migrants. This was announced on Wednesday, February 5, by the country's Vice President Rosario Murillo.

"Today we regret the tragedy that occurred on the Caribbean coast <...> where a boat sank with 17 people of Indian, Vietnamese, Egyptian and Iranian nationality on board," portal El 19 Digital quoted her as saying.

The portal also published a report by the Nicaraguan Army, which said that there were at least six children among the migrants.

Earlier, on November 4, 2024, a boat carrying migrants from different countries capsized near the Comoros Islands in the Indian Ocean, killing at least 25 people. The boat capsized on the route used by irregular migrants to get from Comoros to the French overseas department of Mayotte.
