Moldovan opposition demanded to check USAID activities in the country
The Moldovan opposition has sent a request to the government to check the activities of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the country. This was reported on January 5 by Marina Tauber, a member of the republic's parliament and executive secretary of the executive committee of the opposition Victory bloc, in her Telegram channel.
"It is important for me to understand whether the ISS [Information Security System] analyzes USAID activities and its influence on the sovereign decisions of the authorities? What are the risks of possible foreign interference, and what measures are being taken with regard to external donors? If nothing is being done, I demand an urgent investigation," she wrote.
She added that the Prosecutor General's Office should open a criminal case against USAID representatives and organizations that received funding from them.
On the same day, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that USAID was supposed to provide humanitarian aid and support to countries in health care, economy and education, but instead became a criminal structure. It was specified that the organization was involved in the preparation of coups d'état in a number of countries, such as Ukraine, Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Moldova, Armenia, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan.
On February 3, American billionaire Ilon Musk announced the launch of a process to liquidate USAID. The billionaire noted that this agency is not recoverable, it should be closed. At the same time, US President Donald Trump called USAID leaders radical madmen.
