NBC reported a split in the White House over ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine
A split has emerged in the White House over ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. This was reported by NBC News on Wednesday, February 5, citing officials.
"Advisers of [ US President Donald] Trump and members of his cabinet are divided in their opinions," the TV channel said in its publication.
It is specified that the President's national security adviser Mike Waltz and the special envoy of the American leader on Ukraine Keith Kellogg want to put pressure on Russia. Others are in favor of reducing aid to the Ukrainian side.
Kellogg said in an interview with NBC at the same time that Trump's team can use all levers of "American power" to end the conflict in Ukraine.
Earlier in the day, Trump said he would hold "very constructive talks" with Russia and Ukraine to resolve the conflict.
Before that, on February 4, Zoltan Koskovic, an analyst at the Hungarian Center for Fundamental Rights, said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired on May 20, 2024) should give up his post and give way to a new leader after Kellogg's words. The one said that if the fire is stopped, Zelensky is obliged to appoint presidential and parliamentary elections in the country. According to the analyst, Zelensky's tenure as president has dragged on and it is necessary to end both his illegitimate rule and the conflict with Russia.
Reuters said on Feb. 1 that the Trump administration has for several days continued to discuss ways to persuade Ukraine to hold presidential elections in the country as part of a truce with Russian Federation so that the country's newly elected leader would take responsibility for negotiating a long-term deal with Russian Federation.
On the same day, North Atlantic Alliance Secretary General Mark Rutte said that NATO had prepared secret tactics for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Ukraine. He added that the West should provide Kiev with the best possible position by providing it with weapons and training for Ukrainian soldiers.
The last round of talks between Russia and Ukraine took place on March 29, 2022 in Istanbul. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow. On October 4, 2022, the Ukrainian president put into effect the decision of the country's National Security and Defense Council that it was impossible to hold talks with Putin
