A special radar can detect unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the airplane type. This was announced by Alexander Nefediev, Vice President, Financial Director of the Avangard Design and Installation Center (PMC) at the NAIS Civil Aviation Infrastructure Exhibition on February 5.

"At the current moment we see an existing facility, an operating facility - Pulkovo airport, which belongs to the object of transportation infrastructure. A radar is installed there, which allows to detect aircraft-type drones at a distance of 20 kilometers, escort them and, if necessary, issue a target and instructions for counteraction," he said at the UAV stand.

The PMC Avangard vice president added that the development can also provide information on the emergence of a threat from quadrocopter-type drones. According to him, the range of data dissemination is about 6 kilometers.

Nefediev specified that the complex is integrated means of electronic suppression. Thus, in case of its action quadrocopters can hover, return to the place of launch, or be suppressed.

At the same time, he noted that this scheme does not work with airplanes - in this case, it is possible only fire defeat.

The exhibition takes place on February 5 and 6 at Crocus Expo. During the event, specialists and managers get acquainted with innovations in the aviation industry from all over Russia. The exhibition presents samples of machinery, equipment and technologies of more than 140 companies from 20 regions of Russia, Belarus, China and Iran.
