In Turkey, 23 people were reported dead from fake alcohol poisoning

In Istanbul, 23 people died due to poisoning with counterfeit alcohol. This was reported on January 15 on the website of the press service of the city administration.

"Over the past 48 hours there were 66 cases of alcohol poisoning, 23 poisoned died," - stated in the message.

It is specified that 34 people have died in Istanbul since the beginning of the year due to the use of fake alcohol.

According to the city administration, law enforcement agencies detained six people in the case of selling counterfeit. Two of them have been arrested, investigative actions against others involved are ongoing.

"During the operations conducted since 01.01.2025, 29 tons of counterfeit alcohol have been confiscated, and 64 businesses found selling counterfeit or smuggled alcohol have been closed with the revocation of their licenses," the Istanbul administration said.

The day before, Anadolu Agency reported that 11 people died in Istanbul due to poisoning with counterfeit alcohol.

Earlier, in December 2024, police seized more than 28 tons of counterfeit alcohol in Istanbul, the market value of which is about 15 million Turkish liras (more than 43.5 million rubles), as well as more than 15 thousand counterfeit parcels.
