Expert gives advice on choosing safe Christmas lights
Professor of the Department of Nanoelectronics of RTU MIREA, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Alexei Yurasov gave on Wednesday, December 25, advice on choosing a garland for decorating a Christmas tree.
The expert noted that there are two main types of garlands - LED and lamp garlands, with the former being more modern and energy efficient.
"LED products often have different flashing and color-changing modes, which adds to the decorative effect. Their main advantages are economy, durability and safety, although the cost may be higher," he explained in conversation with Lenta.Ru.
The specialist noted that traditional garlands with incandescent bulbs can lead to fire.
"Despite the affordable price, such products require special attention during operation," he said.
Yurasov emphasized that the main threat associated with the use of light decorations is electrical faults that can lead to short circuits, overheating and fire.
The day before, fire safety expert Konstantin Kuznetsov told how to choose a garland safe for use, RT reports. The specialist advised to pre-check the garland in the socket for the absence of a strong odor of burning wiring, reports 360.ru.
Earlier, on December 23, neurologist and expert doctor at the Hemotest laboratory Ekaterina Demyanovskaya told Izvestia that flashing Christmas tree lights can provoke an epileptic seizure, as well as migraine.
