Ebeko volcano threw ash to a height of 3 km

At the Ebeko volcano in Severo-Kurilsk there was an ash eruption to a height of 3 km. This was reported on Wednesday, December 11, by the press service of the Sakhalin Region EMERCOM Directorate.

"We received information that on the volcano Ebeko (height 1156 m, located 7 km NW of Severo-Kurilsk, in the northern part of the Vernadsky Ridge) there was an ash emission to a height of 3 km", - stated in the message of the department.

The plume spread in the northern direction at a distance of more than 5 kilometers, specified in the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

According to the information of the Unified Duty Dispatch Service (UDDS), no ashfall was observed in Severo-Kurilsk. There is no hydrogen sulfide odor, as well as no threat to the population. There were no calls and complaints from the population.

International air traffic routes in the area of the volcano do not pass, there are no registered tourist groups.

Earlier, December 9, in the Northern Kurils on the volcano Ebeko recorded ash emission to a height of 5 km. It is noted that in the city of North Kurilsk ashfall, the smell of hydrogen sulfide and the threat to the population was not. At the same time, there were no calls and complaints from the population.

Before that, on November 13, the Ebeko volcano in the Kurils threw out ash to a height of 1.4 km. The regional Ministry of Emergency Situations specified that the ashfall and the smell of hydrogen sulfide in the town of Severo-Kurilsk was not observed. Before that, on October 31, at the volcano Ebeko in the Sakhalin region recorded ash emission height of 2.5 km. The plume spread in the eastern direction at a distance of more than 5 km.

Ebeko is located in the north of Paramushir. The height of the volcano is 1156 meters. It has been assigned an orange color code of danger for aviation. This code is assigned to volcanoes that show increased activity with a high probability of eruption.
