The catch of salmon fish species in Russia barely reached 235.4 thousand tons by November 19. This is the worst indicator for 20 years, reports the press service of the All-Russian Association of Fishermen.

As explained in the organization, for the entire history of observations, the Russian Federation has set only two records for catch: 609 thousand tons in 2023 and almost 685 thousand tons in 2018. In the previous 80 years, fishing volumes were much smaller. The 100-year average annual catch is only 194,000 tons, with double that from 2005 to 2024 at 400,200 tons.

The high catch over the past 20 years was achieved at the expense of pink salmon. It accounted for more than 60% of production. Pink salmon has become the most popular and cheapest species of Pacific salmon. The same is true for its caviar, writes IA "Bi-Port".

The analysis of wholesale offers showed that in 2024 the prices for pink, chum and nerka caviar are in the same range. The cost of 1 kg on average is from 7 thousand to 8 thousand rubles. The WARPE concluded that market participants and buyers will need time to get used to the new prices for salmon.

Earlier in November, "Izvestia" wrote that the cost of a can of red caviar will double by the end of this year compared to the previous year. The reason for this is the decrease in salmon catches in the Far East, Sakhalin and Kamchatka.
