The death toll in an explosion at a mine in the town of Tabas in the eastern Iranian province of South Khorasan has risen to 52. This was reported by Khabar Online news agency on Sunday, September 22.
"According to a Tasnim correspondent, due to a methane explosion in two blocks B and C of Tabas mine, the work of block B was completed an hour ago, 30 out of 47 workers working in the block were killed and 17 were injured. The people were taken to hospital," the statement said.
In addition, during the relief process in block C, where 22 workers were trapped due to an increase in methane, it was revealed that all of them died.
About the emergency at the mine in Iran became known earlier in the day. It was noted that 69 workers were working in blocks C and B of the coal mine in Tabas at the time of the explosion. The director general of the provincial crisis management also said that the explosion in the mine was not a fire, and specified that the release of methane in the tunnels was the cause of suffocation of people working in the mine.
