Damage from floods in southern Poland estimated at almost $1 billion
The damage from floods in Lower Silesia in the south of Poland amounted to almost $1 billion, the head of the province Maciej Avizheni said at a meeting of the crisis headquarters on Saturday, September 21.
According to him, 57 thousand people suffered as a result of flooding. More than 6.5 thousand people had to be evacuated. According to him, 749 settlements are in a state of natural disaster.
"In Lower Silesia, the losses are estimated at about 3655 million zlotys. These figures cover 25 poviats (district. - Ed.) and two towns with poviat rights," the words of the voivode are quoted by Polish portal Oko Press.
The flooding in Poland became known on September 15. Then because of heavy rains, which led to the incident, the country introduced a disaster regime, said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. After that, on September 16, the military evacuated 1,100 people from the flood areas in the south of Poland. It is noted that the evacuation was carried out with the help of helicopters, boats and rescue vehicles.
