There have been 655 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past weekend, 655 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 72 people were killed and 855 injured. 64 of the dead were drivers and passengers. On August 10, Izvestia was informed about this by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
There were 25 bus accidents in which there were no fatalities, but 35 road users, including two children, needed medical attention. Nine bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
For example, in the Saratov region, on 422 km of the federal highway R-228 Syzran – Saratov – Volgograd, a 43-year—old driver of an inter-regional bus traveling along the Pyatigorsk-Nizhny Novgorod route with 37 passengers in the cabin collided with a truck moving in front of him in the same direction. As a result of the accident, two bus passengers, including one 13-year-old schoolboy, were hospitalized with injuries. The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded bus drivers that the life and health of the passengers they transport depend entirely on their driving skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding driving behavior.
As a result of 118 accidents involving pedestrians, eight people were killed, and another 116 were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured are 24 child pedestrians, 19 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 35 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 83 outside their area of operation.
107 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 129 young road users were injured, including 74 passengers, nine motor transport drivers, and one cyclist. Three children were killed, two of whom were passengers in passenger vehicles, and the third was driving a pit bike.
So, in one of the rural settlements of the Irkutsk region at night, a 27-year-old female car driver, trying to avoid cats on the roadway, drove off the road, after which the car overturned. The six-year-old daughter of a motorist who was transported in the back seat without using a child restraint and a seat belt died in a car accident. The driver and her other seven-year-old girl passenger, who was in the front passenger seat without a car seat, were injured and ended up in the hospital.
In the Tyumen Region, in the early morning, on 72 km of the Yalutorovsk—Yarkovo regional highway, a 43-year-old female passenger car driver overturned onto the roadway, followed by a collision with a crossover moving towards her. Both the female driver and her 12-year-old daughter, who was wearing a seat belt in the back seat, were killed in the accident. Four more passengers of the car responsible for the incident, including three children born in 2012, 2016 and 2020, were hospitalized with injuries. All of them were in the back passenger seat next to the deceased girl and were wearing seat belts at the time of the vehicle rollover and subsequent collision with an oncoming vehicle.
In one of the villages of the Amur region, in the dead of night, a 15-year-old schoolboy on a pit bike, which he borrowed from a friend, lost control of a sports motorcycle and crashed into a power line pole. The eighth—grader died - he was traveling on a motor vehicle without a helmet, he did not have a driver's license due to his young age.
The State Traffic Inspectorate called on parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own during a long summer break from school, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles, prohibiting the management of cars and motor vehicles without appropriate rights and driving skills. Administrative responsibility is provided for the provision of the opportunity to drive vehicles for children who do not have a driver's license of the appropriate category.
Minors can drive mopeds and motorcycles on public roads no earlier than the age of 16 after completing training and obtaining a driver's license. Cross-country motorcycles and pitbikes, which are sports equipment, should only be used on specialized tracks and only for motor sports. Their design does not provide for headlights and turn signals — for this reason, they are almost invisible to drivers of other vehicles at night, and motorcyclists driving them do not distinguish the path in front of them in conditions of insufficient street lighting. On ordinary roads, as well as in populated areas, movement with the help of a sports equipment is strictly prohibited, the ministry stressed.
"In addition, we remind motorists that the life and health of their passengers depend entirely on the skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior behind the wheel. Avoid risky driving, speeding, sudden lane changes, overtaking, and other dangerous maneuvers. We also draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for transporting children. Take care of your young passengers, preventing even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for the Promotion of road safety and prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Earlier, information began to spread in the media and social networks that allegedly from August 1, car inspectors would begin checking drivers for paper forms of the European protocol. These reports do not correspond to reality, the Russian State Traffic Inspectorate said.
