In the first half of 2026, the average amount of CTP compensation increased by 9.7%. The average payout increased to 122.7 thousand rubles, whereas in the same period last year it amounted to 111.8 thousand rubles. This was announced by the Russian Union of Motor Insurers (RSA) on July 31.

The average premium for annual compulsory auto insurance policies also showed an increase, increasing by 5% to 7,633 rubles (against 7,273 rubles for the same period a year earlier). The average premium was below its level three years ago, the RSA noted. According to the results of the first half of 2023, it amounted to 7781 rubles.

The number of contracts transferred to the reinsurance pool averaged 9.1% in January-June. As noted by the head of the RSA Evgeny Ufimtsev, this indicator has been growing every month throughout the year, and in June it reached almost 12%. The total amount of payments for January-June 2026 reached 134.2 billion rubles, including court overheads and payments from the compensation fund.

The total amount of CTP premiums collected amounted to 165 billion rubles. The number of contracts concluded during this period reached 34 million (of which 12.8 million were short—term; the average premium for such a policy was 210 rubles).

Ufimtsev recalled that from September 19, a new methodology will be used, according to which the amount of expenses for repairing damaged cars will be determined when paying for CTP. After the new guidelines come into force, it is expected that the average payout may increase by about 8-10%, so insurers have to slightly increase the amount of the insurance premium. Otherwise, by the end of this year, it may turn out that there are not enough funds for payments according to the updated methodology, he said.

The day before, it was reported that the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation had developed amendments to the CTP banning payments in excess of 400 thousand rubles. If repairs are disrupted, motorists try to collect amounts from insurance companies in excess of this limit. In May, the Constitutional Court declared this practice illegal and indicated that the restriction should be more clearly fixed in the law.
