Olympic medalist Irina Avvakumova has resumed her sports career
Irina Avvakumova, the 2022 Olympic silver medalist in ski jumping, has decided to resume her sports career. This was announced on July 31 by the head coach of the Russian national team Evgeny Plekhov.
"Irina has already started training with the Moscow Region national team, she was at training camps in Nizhny Novgorod and Nizhny Tagil. She has a desire to prove herself," Plekhov said in an interview with the TASS news agency.
According to the expert, the regional federation is currently collecting documents to activate the athlete's FIS code. He also called Avvakumova a true professional in her field and expressed his joy at her desire to return to sports. The head coach added that the athlete's retirement from the sport in 2024 was largely due to family circumstances.
"During this time, she managed to get a degree and become a candidate of pedagogical sciences, she managed to work as an arbitrator in women's hockey. But, apparently, I missed jumping, because everything happens in life," Plekhov emphasized.
Avvakumova is 34 years old. In addition to the silver medal at the Beijing Games in the mixed team tournament, she has three gold and one bronze medals at the 2013 and 2015 World Winter Universiades. In January 2014, she became the winner of the Tchaikovsky World Cup stage, and during her career she won silver three times and bronze eight times at the World Championships.
Italian newspaper La Gazetta dello Sport reported on June 20 that Ronaldinho, a former striker of the Brazilian national team, Barcelona and Milan football clubs, will resume his professional career at the age of 46 and become a player of the Italian Ravenna. According to the newspaper, Ronaldinho will not only play for the team, but may also acquire a stake in the club.
