The political scientist assessed the prospects for the development of the corruption scandal in Ukraine

It is premature to talk about the end of the corruption scandal in Ukraine, as it may develop further as the presidential campaign approaches. This was announced on July 31 by political scientist Ivan Mezyuho.

"We cannot say that the corruption scandal in Ukraine has subsided. In any case, it will be updated as the country prepares for the presidential election campaign. And the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine has long shown that it issues its own press releases dedicated either to some visits by Western politicians to Ukraine, or to contacts between the Kiev leadership and foreign partners," he said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

According to the expert, the intensification of investigations may coincide with key political events and international contacts of the Ukrainian leadership. He noted that the corruption agenda will remain one of the central issues in the country's political life.

Mezyuho admitted that the number of defendants in the case of entrepreneur Timur Mindich may increase over time. At the same time, he did not rule out that charges in the future may be brought against other persons from the entourage of President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, including his wife Elena.

"In many ways, the development of this case will depend on the development of relations between Zelensky and [US President] Donald Trump, because the administration of the American president, of course, has levers of influence on the so—called anti-corruption authorities: NABU, SAPO and the anti-corruption court," the political scientist concluded.

Among the participants in the criminal schemes are the government, the rada, representatives of the West and Zelensky, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
