The State Duma proposed to provide free meals to all schoolchildren

Free hot meals should be provided to all Russian schoolchildren from 1st to 11th grades. This was announced on July 31 by the leader of the Fair Russia party, Sergei Mironov.

"We will ensure that all children receive the same, high-quality, good, free meals from grades 1 to 11," Mironov said in an interview with the TASS news agency.

The parliamentarian stressed that scandals regularly arise in Russian schools when students are separated on a social basis. According to him, children who are paid for by their parents are fed normally, while the "beneficiaries" are put at separate tables with meager lunches. Mironov recalled that in 2020, the State Duma approved the norm on hot meals for elementary schools.

"Even then, we proposed extending this rule to all students. This is a matter of both children's health and parents' finances. Fair Russia has submitted such a bill more than once, and we will seek its adoption," the deputy noted.

LDPR party leader Leonid Slutsky, in a letter to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova on July 7, said that the faction had proposed developing a federal program for free meals with specialized products for children under three years of age. Instead of the current system, the parliamentarian proposed to introduce uniform minimum federal guarantees. According to the initiative, the regions will be able to provide this assistance with both food and money in the amount of the actual cost of baby food.
