Mr. Poisoner: how did Missura explain his crimes
Artem Missyura, who was sentenced to life in prison, said after sentencing that he "deserved the worst," admitted his greed and expressed hope to become a better person someday. His ex-girlfriend Kristina Dudkina, whom he almost killed and in whose name he issued loans, did not believe his words. Why Missyura himself claims that he did not intend to kill his loved ones, what motives for the crimes were established by the investigation and whether his behavior could have been influenced by a personality disorder — in the Izvestia material.
What was Artem Missyura tried for?
Missyura, nicknamed the "Balashikha poisoner," was found by the investigation to have poisoned his family and friends with homemade toxic substances from January to June 2024. He ordered poisonous powders and liquids online and mixed them into food. His grandmother and his best friend died from his "treats", seven more people, including his parents, survived only thanks to the emergency medical help.
The maniac's girlfriend, Kristina Dudkina— became his first victim, and Missyura poisoned her with an alcoholic cocktail. When Missyura saw that her friend was ill, he called an ambulance. Kristina was urgently hospitalized, and she spent a week in a coma. During this time, Missyura managed to issue loans in her name for 570 thousand rubles.
The next was Artyom's childhood friend Konstantin Kaminsky, as the investigation found out. Missyura treated him to poisoned berry juice when they were talking in a parked car. Doctors could not save Konstantin anymore — he died in the hospital two days later. After that, the poisoner apparently went into a rage, and the crimes began to resemble a conveyor belt.
Missyura started visiting his grandmother and uncle with poisoned gifts. After each visit by Missyura, both relatives complained of feeling unwell. Grandma was hospitalized twice, but no one noticed the connection between her condition and her grandson's actions. She died soon after the next meeting.
Missyura treated his girlfriend's brother and his friend to a poisoned crab roll. Both became ill, but the doctors managed to save them.
The poisoner also entered the apartment where his mother, stepfather and younger sister lived when no one was at home, the investigation found. He put dangerous chemicals in salt, prepared food, coffee and other products.
The crimes were stopped by accident — Missyura's mother and stepfather, suspecting something was wrong, installed cameras in their kitchen. Thanks to this, the investigation had evidence of poisoning, and in July 2024, the young man was arrested.
"I deserve the worst"
On July 24, his ex-girlfriend Kristina Dudkina came to Artem Missyura's sentencing. Her mother and the girlfriend of Missyura's deceased friend, Konstantin Kaminsky, were present in court with her.
"It's all my fault. Whatever they give you is mine. I deserve the worst. He did it because of stupidity and commercialism, he was a mean man. Now I'm trying to work on myself and analyze my mistakes. I hope that I can become what my parents wanted me to be," Missyura told reporters before the verdict. His face was hidden by a medical mask, and his voice sounded even and completely calm.
According to him, he loved his girlfriend at the time of poisoning, as well as his relatives, but "not in the way it should be."
However, Kristina was skeptical of his words.
— I still haven't heard any good explanation. It's just another lie to whitewash yourself and shorten your sentence. Apparently, there is no awareness of what he has done either," she stressed.
Kristina admitted that for a long time she could not believe what had happened when she found out that Artyom had tried to poison her. Most of all, she is surprised by Missyura's complete indifference and lack of compassion. At the same time, after the poisoning, Artyom constantly showed care and helped to recover. Right now, all she feels for her ex—boyfriend is indifference.
The girl also told what happened to the loans taken by Missura in her name. She managed to come to an amicable agreement with Sberbank and cancel the debt. The court dismissed T-Bank's claims against Kristina, but the bank is still trying to challenge this decision.
As a result, the court sentenced the "Balashikha poisoner" to life imprisonment in a special regime colony and satisfied civil lawsuits filed by one of the victims for 550 thousand rubles and Sberbank for 274 thousand rubles. The defendant listened to the verdict without emotion.
Missyura's lawyer Denis Companeets told Izvestia that he was going to appeal the court's decision.
"The investigation has made mistakes and the criminal case should be sent to the prosecutor for further investigation," he said.
The defender added that now he remains the only person who keeps in touch with the outside world, as his relatives have stopped communicating with him.
Why did Missyura poison his loved ones
During the court sessions, Artyom Missyura insisted that he did not intend to kill anyone, but only wanted to achieve temporary hospitalization of his victims. Allegedly, his stepfather and Kristina somehow prevented him from talking to his mother, he only wanted to steal her jewelry from his grandmother to solve his financial problems, the girl's brother did not give him the car, and the other victims were not his targets at all.
However, the investigation is confident that Missyura is lying, he had the intention to kill, and in most episodes he was motivated by greed. The poisoner wanted to take over all the relatives' property, but he did not want to repay a large debt to his girlfriend's brother. The only thing that stands out is the murder of Konstantin Kaminsky — the investigation concluded that the convict was jealous of his friend's success, which is why he decided to kill him.
In June last year, Artyom Missyura's mother, Ekaterina Pulina, obtained recognition of her son as an unworthy heir through the court, canceling the donation of his share in the apartment. Ekaterina cut off all ties with Artyom and did not attend any meeting on his criminal case. The prosecutor read her written testimony at one of the hearings. The woman's words were full of bitterness: "I haven't forgiven him. He has committed monstrous acts for which he must be punished."
In his last words, Missyura stated that he sincerely repents of the atrocities committed and is now on the path of correction. His speech sounded stilted and self-deprecating. "It didn't cost me anything to deceive someone close to me, and I often found my happiness only in satisfying my own needs. Even when I was doing good to someone, I could be guided by selfish motives, and I considered providing myself with finances and material goods to be one of the main goals of my life.… I had no right to even think of harming anyone, much less carry out my dirty and vile plans.… I am well aware that it is better to remove such a cancerous tumor for society as my personality, but please give me the opportunity to heal."
The poisoner also asked the court to send him to his place, giving him the opportunity to "redeem himself with blood." It should be noted that the "Balashikha poisoner" was found sane at the time of the crime, but the examination found him to have a hysterical personality disorder. — People with hysterical personality disorder are characterized by self-dramatization, theatricality and exaggerated expression of emotions. Such a person can be suggestible, shallow, strive to be the center of attention all the time, and overly take care of their appearance. Additional traits include egocentricity, self—indulgence, resentment, and a tendency to manipulative behavior to meet their needs," the specialist explained.
According to the expert, a person with such a disorder may perceive himself as a "great" actor or politician who can be admired by others, or an "elusive and brilliant" criminal who controls people's lives and is able to deceive any investigator. Others, including close relatives, if they do not support this idea of their own exclusivity, can cause negative emotions in him — from indifference to hatred and the desire to prove their "selectivity".
