Clemens von Goetze assumed the post of German Ambassador to Moscow
Clemens von Goetze officially assumed the post of German Ambassador to Moscow on Monday, July 20. This was reported by RBC holding with reference to the German diplomatic mission.
Von Goetze was replaced in this post by Alexander Lambsdorff, who has represented Berlin's interests in Russia since August 2023. Prior to his appointment to Moscow, the new ambassador had been the head of the German diplomatic mission in Mexico since 2024.
Clemens von Goetze's career includes working in various positions at the central office of the German Foreign Ministry and at the Embassy in Washington. The diplomat also has experience working in German missions in Japan, China and Israel.
On July 16, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the departure of former German Ambassador to Russia Alexander Lambsdorff with words from Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita that "he did not deserve the light." She also posted an excerpt of a video of the German embassy, adding to it a musical accompaniment related to the scene of Woland's ball from the film adaptation of the novel.
