Three people died in an incident at the Harzturm observation tower in the Harz Mountains in Germany. This was reported on July 16 by the newspaper Die Welt.

"Three people died when they fell from an observation tower in the Harz Mountains. Help came too late for them, as confirmed by a representative of the fire service," the publication says.

According to the representative of the fire service, rescuers arrived at the scene too late and could not help the victims. At the same time, the circumstances of the tragedy that occurred in the city of Altenau (Goslar district, Lower Saxony) remain unclear.

Numerous police officers and rescuers are currently working at the site. The area around the facility is cordoned off, privacy screens are installed. The regional crisis intervention group is involved in the work.

The Hartzturm in Obergarz has a height of 65 m and is Germany's tallest observation tower made of wood and steel. The facility, worth about €10 million, was partially funded by the state and the federal government. The building is equipped with two observation decks and a glass-floored area at a height of 45 m.

The tower can be reached by stairs or an elevator, and the descent is also carried out along a 110 m long slide. The construction of the facility has been underway since May 2021 and has been repeatedly postponed. The official opening of the tower took place on November 1, 2024.

On March 22, the Ministry of Health of Peru reported that a tourist bus had fallen off a cliff in the west of the country, killing at least nine people and injuring 15 others. It was clarified that the bus was heading from the capital on an excursion to Mount Rakhuntai in the Huning department.
