The Sun has seen a record number of flares in two years.
The sun has updated the two-year record for the number of flares that occurred during one day. This was announced on July 6 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS.
"Yesterday, July 5, from 00:00 to 23:59 Moscow time, 24 outbreaks of category C and higher were registered according to universal universal time and 26 outbreaks if you count the day according to Moscow time," the laboratory staff wrote on the Telegram channel.
According to experts, groups of spots, including the largest area in 10 years, 4478, have shifted to the west. It is expected that on Monday, July 6, they will leave for the other side of the star. Scientists note that if these groups persist over the next two weeks, they will turn back to Earth in the second half of July, but the likelihood of such a scenario is low.
The laboratory added that on July 6, the X-ray fluxes, which have been increased tenfold over the past week, will begin to decline. If no new pockets of activity form on the star, it will return to a calm state by the middle of the week.
On July 4, ten strong flares of varying power occurred on the Sun. Flashes of the penultimate class M with a power from M1.1 to M4.1 lasting from 15 to 36 minutes were recorded.
