The Kremlin said that there is no official confirmation of reports of possible presidential elections in Ukraine yet. At the same time, information appeared in the Ukrainian media about the possible participation of the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Valery Zaluzhny is in the presidential race in the future. All the details are in the Izvestia article.

The Kremlin's reaction to reports of elections in Ukraine

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on July 2 that Moscow had reviewed media reports about the possible holding of presidential elections in Ukraine. However, he noted that there had been no official statements about this, so it was premature to comment on such reports.

In addition, Peskov recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously drawn attention to legal issues related to the legitimacy of the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky.

What the Ukrainian media reports

According to the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper, the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and now the country's ambassador to London, Valery Zaluzhny, notified Zelensky of his intention to run for president. According to the sources of the publication, the Ukrainian leader planned to offer the diplomat a position in the state apparatus in exchange for refusing to participate in the elections.

There has been no official confirmation of this information at the moment. It is reported that the publications appeared against the background of ongoing discussions about the possible political future of Ukraine after the end of the conflict.

How Ukrainians' moods have changed

According to the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), published on June 17, the number of Ukrainians who support the election of a new president after the end of the conflict has increased significantly compared to 2023. Three years ago, 23% of the survey participants supported this position, but now this figure has reached 67%.

Experts note that the results of the study indicate a change in public sentiment. At the same time, official decisions on holding presidential elections in Ukraine have not yet been announced.
