Nikolay Chernyshuk, director of the College of Lawyers "Right to Health", a lawyer, reminded that parents face punishment for leaving their children in the car in the heat. In an interview with Radio 1, the specialist stated that even a short stay of a child in a closed car in the heat can lead to tragic consequences.

He explained that due to the peculiarities of thermoregulation in infants, overheating significantly increases the risk of developing febrile seizures, which can be accompanied by respiratory and cardiac arrest. According to him, the presence of an air conditioner does not guarantee safety, since a child may lose consciousness due to a violation of heat exchange.

Chernyshuk also said that the responsibility for leaving a child alone in a car depends on the time and consequences. He explained that stopping for up to five minutes is not considered a violation, but if a child under the age of seven stays alone in the car for longer than this time, the owner faces an administrative fine. It is higher in Moscow and St. Petersburg than in other regions.

According to the expert, if serious harm has been caused to the child's health, for example, he has fallen into a coma, criminal liability may ensue. In addition, in such cases, the article on abandonment in danger applies. Chernyshuk added that the initiation of a criminal case often becomes the basis for the intervention of guardianship authorities and can lead to the deprivation of parental rights.

Earlier, on June 19, in Kuzbass, a seven-year-old boy fell into a coma from heat stroke, which he received because his mother left him in the car and blocked the doors. It was established that the woman was gone for about three hours, after which she returned to the parking lot and found her child unconscious. A criminal case has been opened under the article on abandonment in danger. She could face up to a year in prison.
