- The White House announced the participation of Witkoff and Kushner in negotiations with Iran
US President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will represent the United States at the talks with Iran in Doha on Tuesday, June 30. This was reported by the Reuters news agency, citing the words of White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt.
"Witkoff and Kushner will travel to Doha this week for high—level meetings, during which we continue to discuss the memorandum of understanding," the statement said.
Earlier in the day, Trump said that Iran had requested a meeting with the United States and that it would take place in the capital of Qatar.
The day before, it was reported that Tehran canceled technical talks with Washington scheduled for Sunday, June 28, due to an exchange of strikes between the parties in the Strait of Hormuz.
On June 26, Trump announced that Iran had violated the ceasefire in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the American leader, the Islamic Republic launched at least four drones at ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the drones hit the upper deck of a cargo ship. The United States and Iran exchanged blows.
Later, Trump criticized Iran for the incident, noting that he "doesn't like it" and Tehran "shouldn't do that." Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stressed that any interference in the situation in the Strait of Hormuz would lead to an escalation in the waters.
