- Soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces told about holding positions near Slavyansk for five months
Soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, whose Wolves brigade was one of the first to enter the settlement of Privolye in the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk direction, told Izvestia correspondent Egor Kildibekov on June 29 how they had held their positions for five months.
The unit began to take up positions back in January 2026 at the fortified border. By March, the stormtroopers had advanced into Freedom. The main difficulty during this period was supply: due to clear weather and constant aerial surveillance, food delivery was impossible, so the soldiers had to drown the snow to get water.
"The promotion is going well, the guys are ready, everything is fine. The spirit, the power of the spirit, is the only way," explained the soldier with the call sign Candy.
The fighters were starving for a week. During one of the forays for food, the Russian military clashed with a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group at a distance of about 10 m. The enemy was given a new and clean form. After a brief shooting battle, one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers was captured.
"I saw three people, they started shooting, a fourth came out, they started shooting again, one left, then stayed, and we captured him," he described the circumstances of Candy's capture.
The prisoner, whose artery was damaged as a result of the incident, was given the necessary medical care, and then provided with food and water. As Candy noted, after that, the detainee provided all the necessary information to the Russian military.
Speaking about the enemy's training, the fighter stressed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters are well equipped and provided, but they are inferior in small arms combat.
"They are absolutely not prepared for a shooting battle. It's cowardice – cowardice itself is betrayed by the look in the eyes," the military noted.
He noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters are used to being in more comfortable conditions, which greatly relaxes them, so seasoned Russian fighters were able to fight them back.
However, he never reached the exchange, as during his withdrawal from the front line, he was eliminated by Ukrainian drones. When Russian soldiers were escorting him from the front line, he was killed in an attack by an APU drone.
Another soldier— a veteran of the 155th Marine Brigade with the call sign Yesyan— entered the position in January. 2 km from their nearest positions and 350 m from the enemy. It wasn't easy to get there.
"The terrain did not allow for the weather conditions, plus everything was mined. I started a band, fortunately we got there normally, we sank a little the first time we went there," he says.
Yesyan literally "drowned" — he fell into the February frost, without shoes, which were left in the reeds. I couldn't get out of the slippery shore.
"The lungs have already expanded. I was on my last legs, I thought I was going to die. And as if a push, God saved me once again, gave me the strength to throw it off, and I got out on this jerk," he said.
After his miraculous rescue, Yesyan spent about an hour searching for a way out of this area alone in thick fog. After that, he spent another week drying his clothes.
"I took off my socks—my nails are black. I thought it would go further, I was afraid that some kind of gangrene. As a result, my nails just fell off, and that's it," he said.
The group stayed in position for a month — there was only the enemy ahead. According to Candy, the supply was intermittent: in clear weather, delivery was virtually impossible. The fighters starved for several days in a row, saving a little from each rare snack.
"They'll give it to us, we'll put it off a little bit. If they throw it off, we'll postpone it a little bit," Yesyan explained.
Water was drawn from the stream only in bad weather – in clear weather, the open space was shot through. In winter, they heated the snow with gas, and collected water in the rain.
"The stream could only be reached due to bad weather, because flying is an open area, it's just so difficult to get water," he added.
The dugouts were left by the enemy — the militants left in a hurry, leaving food, equipment and drones.
"Dugouts with food. They were leaving their positions, and they had the equipment, as well as the birds — everything was there," said the fighter.
An unexpected discovery was the female voices from the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"Women's voices could be heard – already, as it were, in the front positions, from the next shelf," says Yesyan.
They spoke Russian, but it was difficult to make out the words. According to him, these could be drone operators or mortar crews.
"There were always eyes there, kamikaze attacks were constantly being practiced, and the enemy periodically entered, as if conducting reconnaissance. Our artillery suppressed all attempts," he says.
By their actions, Russian military personnel not only ensure the advance to Slavyansk, but also pull the enemy away from Konstantinovka, covering for their colleagues who are working to liberate the city.
Two days earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on the liberation of 70 buildings in Konstantinovka, Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), by Russian soldiers. According to the ministry, 90 Ukrainian Armed Forces militants, two self-propelled artillery installations, 16 vehicles, 21 ground-based robotic complexes and an electronic warfare station were eliminated in this city.
