Former Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov passed his life with dignity, leaving a noticeable mark in the history of Russia. This was announced on June 26 by the Chairman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko.
"Sergei Borisovich passed his life with dignity, leaving a noticeable mark in the history of Russia, to which he was completely devoted," the telegram says.
Matvienko stressed that Ivanov was a talented leader who devoted his life to serving the Fatherland, contributed to achieving Russia's strategic development goals, ensuring security, strengthening sovereignty and protecting national interests.
"We will remember him as a true patriot, comrade and friend," Matvienko said.
Ivanov's death at the age of 74 became known on the same day. In 2001, he was appointed Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, and from December 22, 2011 to August 12, 2016, he served as Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the relatives of ex-Defense Minister Ivanov. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that a telegram of condolences from the Russian president had been sent to Ivanov's family.
