Since the beginning of 2026, more than 500,000 SIM cards have been seized by law enforcement agencies in Russia, which were used in the interests of fraudsters. This was announced on June 26 by the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

"Since the beginning of this year, law enforcement officers have seized over 500 SIM boxes and 500,000 SIM cards, and brought to justice more than 300 people involved in illegal activities," the agency said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

The department also noted that the maintenance of SIM boxes and the provision of SIM cards to unauthorized persons is considered assistance to fraudsters and entails liability.

On June 12, the head of the city's online project "Call me Back" at the Moscow Department of Information Technology, Valentina Shilina, warned that one should not try to replay telephone scammers, since voice recording can be used in the future to confirm banking transactions or to deceive loved ones.
