The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation has decided to begin the restoration of the panorama "Defense of Sevastopol"

Work on the restoration of the roof of the panorama "Defense of Sevastopol 1854-1855" will begin in the near future in order to protect the walls of the building from precipitation and prevent further destruction. This was announced on June 22 in the press service of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation in the Maks messenger.

The ministry clarified that the cultural heritage site was visited by a delegation of the Ministry of Culture headed by First Deputy Minister Sergei Obryvalin. During the visit, experts examined the current condition of the structure and assessed the damage caused by the drone strike.

"Based on the results of the inspection, it was decided to immediately begin work on restoring the roof in order to protect the stone walls from precipitation and prevent further destruction," the ministry said.

The Ministry of Culture added that after the roof is installed, it is planned to begin internal repair and restoration work. At the same time, special attention will be paid to preserving the exterior facade and the historical appearance of the facility.

After the UAV attack on the Sevastopol Defense Museum, the famous painting by Roubaud, which survived the German bombing during the Great Patriotic War, was damaged.

The Governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev, announced on June 10 that the building of the panorama "Defense of Sevastopol 1854-1855" was almost completely destroyed by a targeted strike by UAVs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Due to the attack, a fire broke out at the facility, which was assigned the rank of increased complexity. According to the city government, there are no fatalities or injuries.

In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the incident a barbaric act and offered to pay tickets to representatives of the UNESCO secretariat in Sevastopol so that they could personally see what the Ukrainian militants had done with this work of art. She said on June 10 that the Panorama Museum "Defense of Sevastopol 1854-1855", damaged as a result of the drone attack, will be restored.

Mikhail Smorodkin, director of the Sevastopol Defense Museum, admitted that the panorama canvas could have received critical damage as a result of the Ukrainian Armed Forces strike. In 1942, during the Great Patriotic War, the facility was already destroyed by the Nazis, after which it was completely restored.
