Xiaomi's crossover has become the fastest self-driving car in the world
The Xiaomi YU7 GT electric crossover has set the world's first lap record at the 20.8-kilometer Nurburgring-Nordschleife race track in Germany in unmanned mode. This was announced on June 22, with reference to the company's press service, according to the Chinese portal Autohome.
It is not specified whether the crossover was equipped with special additional equipment that is not provided in the serial Xiaomi YU7 GT, and whether the safety of the arrival was controlled by the person behind the wheel.
Earlier in the spring, the Xiaomi YU7 GT, driven by a Chinese test pilot, became the fastest crossover at the Nurburgring-Nordschleife, ahead of the Audi and Porsche models. His result was 7 minutes, 34.931 seconds. Thus, the car with autopilot turned out to be about 3 seconds slower than under human control.
Nurburgring-Nordschleife is one of the most popular routes in the automotive industry for testing high—performance vehicles. In the spring, the Xiaomi YU7 GT was almost two seconds faster than the previous record holder, the Audi RS Q8 Performance (7 minutes 36.698 seconds), which held the record since 2024. Since 2021, the title of fastest SUV has belonged to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT Coupe (7 minutes 38.925 seconds).
Earlier, on June 19, GAC announced the start of collecting pre-orders in Russia for the new Hyptec HT all-electric crossover, with a starting price of 6 million rubles.
