Ushakov noted Russia's long-standing pivot towards Asia
Russia has long made a U-turn towards Asia. This was announced on June 19 by Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.
"Everything has been deployed for a long time. You know yourself," Ushakov told the Vesti news agency, answering the question whether Russia is turning towards Asia now or continuing its previously planned movement.
He also noted that the Russia—ASEAN summit held in Kazan was informative, the discussion was interesting and useful, and the subsequent bilateral contacts were very positive.
On June 18, Putin pointed to the authority of ASEAN, which is recognized not only in the Asia-Pacific region (APR), but throughout the world after the organization passed the test of time. He emphasized the nature of the strategic partnership that had developed as a result of mutual consideration of interests. A day earlier, Putin said that the strategic partnership between Russia and ASEAN is an important stabilizing factor in the Asia-Pacific region.
