The media reported on the visit of MEPs from the BSW party to Moscow

Members of the European Parliament (EP) Ruth Firmenich and Michael von der Schulenburg, representing the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (BSW) party, arrived in Moscow to hold meetings with Russian officials. This was announced on June 7 by the Focus Online portal.

It is specified that the program of the visit includes meetings with representatives of the presidential administration of the Russian Federation, deputies of the State Duma and representatives of civil society. In a joint statement, Firmich and von der Schulenburg explained that they intend to build on the contacts established during their trip last year to mark the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Nazi Germany.

"We want to continue the negotiations that we started last year during our visit on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Nazi Germany," the politicians said.

According to MEPs, the current lack of dialogue between the European Union (EU) and Russia is an extremely dangerous fact that needs to be overcome. BSW representatives stressed the importance of finding new formats of interaction that are alternative to the current course of the EU.

"We consider it urgently necessary to develop new formats of negotiations with Russia through civil society, instead of betting on further escalation and economic war, which harms primarily the EU and Germany," the MEPs stressed.

Bundestag deputy from the German Alternative for Germany (AfD) party Steffen Cotre said on the same day that Europe's security is possible only through cooperation with Russia. He noted that a large number of ideologically motivated decisions directed against Moscow's interests are being made at the EU level.

Bundestag deputy from the AFD Markus Fronmaier, in turn, criticized the course of the current German government to curtail dialogue with Russia. Assessing the willingness of the German authorities to engage in dialogue with Moscow, he expressed regret over the current position of the Cabinet of Ministers.
