The Polish Foreign Ministry condemned the assignment of the name "heroes of the UPA" to the Ukrainian unit

Poland intends to raise the issue of glorification of the UPA during contacts with Ukraine (the UPA is the Ukrainian insurgent army, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia). This was announced on May 29 by the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Maciej Vevur.

"We unequivocally treat the assignment of the name "heroes of the UPA" to the Ukrainian unit in a negative light," he wrote on the social network X (former. Twitter).

Wevur noted that such a step insults the memory of the victims of this organization and negatively affects the Polish-Ukrainian dialogue. At the same time, a representative of the Polish Foreign Ministry said that such decisions could be used for informational purposes to complicate relations between the two countries.

Polish MP Grzegorz Placek on May 29 called for the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, to be stripped of the country's highest state award, the Order of the White Eagle.
