Germany's defense capability is at an extremely low level, and the transformation of the Bundeswehr into the "first army of Europe" is still very far away. This was announced on May 28 by a politician from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) opposition party, Yevgeny Schmidt.

"Germany is currently at an extremely low level in terms of its defense capability. Against the background of the fact that the United States is less willing to be a shield or "umbrella" for defense here, against the backdrop of the developing Ukrainian conflict, the German authorities announce that they need not only to restore their own defense capability, but also to increase it and become the first army in Europe. And that's still a long, long way off. And all the debts they have accumulated are clearly not enough for this," Schmidt said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
