Azarov commented on the charges against Ermak in Ukraine.
Corruption charges against the former head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Ermak, are part of a large-scale case against the Ukrainian leader himself, Vladimir Zelensky, initiated by the US authorities. This was announced on May 12 by former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov.
"This whole case is against Zelensky, specifically against this organized criminal group about the theft of funds, primarily from the American budget, since a lot of money came, as well as European money. This is all a consequence of the command given by the Americans," he said in an interview with the TASS news agency.
According to Azarov, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly made it clear that he considers the Ukrainian leader to be out of place. The former head of the Ukrainian cabinet stressed that the American leader treats Zelensky sharply negatively, and therefore pressure is being exerted on Kiev.
"As soon as he makes a decision, or his entourage decides that he needs to be removed, he will be removed, and they can remove him in the harshest way, up to and including arrest," the politician added.
On the eve of the Ukrainian security forces conducted searches at Ermak. At the same time, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) stated that the agency, together with the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), exposed an organized group involved in the legalization of 460 million hryvnias in luxury construction near Kiev. One of the members of the group is Ermak, he was charged with suspicion.
Later, on May 12, the NABU announced the seizure of real estate in the city of Kozyn near Kiev, which appears in the anti-corruption case. SAP head Alexander Klimenko, in turn, said that the agency was requesting the arrest of Ermak in the case of money laundering. SAP also requests that Ermak be given bail in the amount of 180 million hryvnias (more than 300 million rubles).
