The doctor warned about the threat to vision due to prolonged work behind the screen
Prolonged screen work, poor workplace lighting, and insufficient distance from the monitor increase the risk of developing dry eye syndrome, computer vision syndrome, myopia, and accommodation spasm. Oksana Kuznetsova, the chief physician of the 3Z ophthalmological clinic, told about this on Thursday, April 30.
"The risk of developing these eye conditions is increased by prolonged work behind the screen, poor workplace lighting and insufficient distance from the eyes to the monitor, stress and lack of sleep, as well as non—compliance with work and rest conditions," the specialist said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
The doctor recommended to ensure the correct position of the screen — it should be at a distance of 45-70 cm from the eyes, and the lighting should be uniform, lateral and diffused, without glare on the monitor.
"To prevent visual overexertion, you can do the Avetisov point-on-glass exercise. You need to attach a small red dot made of paper or plasticine to the window glass, sit or stand at a distance of 50-70 cm, close one eye and look at the dot for 30 seconds, then 30 seconds into the distance. After that, the exercise is repeated with the other eye," Kuznetsova said, adding that such gymnastics helps to alternate tension and relaxation of the eye muscles and trains the eye's ability to switch focus from a short distance to a long distance.
The ophthalmologist warned that with dry eyes, you should not choose moisturizing drops yourself, as similar symptoms may be associated with inflammatory diseases, such as conjunctivitis or other ophthalmological problems.
On August 10, Anton Kazantsev, ophthalmologist and CEO of VISTA Ophthalmological Center, shared habits that can preserve eyesight. He called the "20-20-20 rule" the most underestimated, the essence of which is the need to look up from the screen every 20 minutes and look at an object at a distance of 20 m for 20 seconds. According to the expert, this practice reduces the risk of myopia progression.
