Akinfeev announced the early end of the season due to illness
Goalkeeper and captain of the Moscow football club (FC) CSKA Igor Akinfeev announced on April 27 that he would no longer play this season due to health problems.
"As for our football affairs. This season is definitely over for me. Unfortunately, I continue to struggle with inflammation," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Akinfeev stressed that, despite the forced break, he has no plans to end his professional career. The footballer intends to focus on treatment and recovery in order to get in the right shape by the beginning of next season.
The athlete appealed to the fans not to discuss false information in the media and to rally around the team ahead of key matches. He noted that CSKA will have home meetings with Zenit and Lokomotiv, as well as a derby and a fight to reach the final of the Russian Cup.
Akinfeev called on the fans to support the players and the coaching staff in order to adequately complete the current tournament cycle, and only after its completion to summarize the work done.
The press service of FC CSKA announced on April 20 that midfielder Kirill Glebov was injured and will miss from three to four weeks. According to the results of an MRI scan, the football player was diagnosed with damage to the biceps femoris muscle. It was clarified that the player has already started rehabilitation.
