CTP policies may rise in price by 10% due to an increase in the payout limit
An increase in the limit on life and health payments for CTP from 500 thousand to 2 million rubles will also lead to an increase in the cost of CTP. According to estimates by the Russian Union of Motor Insurers (RSA), the average premium may increase by about 10%. The union's press service announced this in its Telegram channel on April 20.
"The Bank of Russia will have to make the necessary calculations and change the insurance tariffs accordingly," the RSA said.
The draft law on increasing the limit on life and health benefits for CTP was approved by the government of the Russian Federation, making one amendment — the deadline for its entry into force was postponed to March 1, 2027. The RSA stated that they support the bill: it should equalize the limit on OSAGO with the existing limit on OSGOP.
"Currently, in similar situations, the maximum payment for OSAGO is 500 thousand rubles, while for OSGOP it is 2 million rubles, and the legislative initiative eliminates this discrepancy and will lead to improved protection for victims," said RSA President Evgeny Ufimtsev.
He noted that the current CTP limit of 500 thousand rubles has not changed since 2014, but during this time the cost of medical services and rehabilitation has increased significantly. The increase in the limit will make it possible to compensate for such expenses, especially in case of serious injuries, in accordance with current prices, the head of the union said.
Earlier that day, Anatoly Aksakov, head of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market, said that a bill to increase the maximum amount of insurance payments for CTP from 500,000 to 2 million rubles could be adopted as early as May 2026. He pointed out that a significant increase in CTP tariffs is not expected, since the main financial burden will be placed on the perpetrators of road accidents.
