The rise and subsequent decline in the price of chicken eggs in Russia is associated with natural market mechanisms. This was announced on April 8 by Maxim Shaskolsky, head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of the Russian Federation.

"I must say that in terms of eggs, for example, maybe market mechanisms are working, there was an increase at some point, then there was a sharp decline," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying from a seminar on a tariff conference.

The head of the FAS explained that after a period of price appreciation, there was a sharp decline, and many manufacturers were on the verge of unprofitability. At the same time, according to him, the industry remains competitive — there are a large number of suppliers and sellers on the market.

Shaskolsky also said that the antimonopoly service has sent recommendations to large companies and retail chains to comply with the principles of socially responsible pricing. In general, the situation in the country's food market is assessed as stable, he concluded.

On April 1, the FAS reminded participants of the chicken egg market about the ban on unjustified price increases, and the service sent relevant letters to producers. The ministry noted that this product is a socially significant food product. In order to ensure the availability of such goods to the public, the service drew the attention of market participants.
