Magnitogorsk Metallurg defeated Siberia and advanced to the second round of the playoffs

Magnitogorsk Metallurg defeated Novosibirsk Siberia in the fifth match of the 1/8 finals of the Gagarin Cup and secured entry to the next round of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) tournament. The match took place on April 1 in Magnitogorsk and ended with a score of 1:0.

Striker Daniil Vovchenko scored the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute. Alexander Smolin, the goalkeeper of the ice masters, blocked 24 shots at his own goal, recording the first "dry" match in the current playoff draw and the fifth in his career in the KHL.

The final score in the series of up to four wins was 4:1 in favor of the Magnitogorsk club. According to the results of the regular season, Metallurg won the Continental Cup, while Siberia took eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
